2009 Irish NPS Rd 3 - Rostrevor Preview

Posted: May 6, 2009

Round 3 of the 2009 Irish NPS is taking place in Kilbroney Forest Park, Rostrevor, in southern Co. Down on the 23/24th May 2009, hosted by CRC.

The track being raced is the same as the track used for the 2006 and 2007 Nationals, on the back of Slieve Martin, 500m above sea level.

It is a very challenging track, starting roughly 3/4 of the way up the mountain. The top section is the most challenging, starting with some very rocky areas, and infamous chicken runs for anyone not willing to hit any of the jumps, drops etc
The middle section, is also quite rooty, though not near as technical and definitely hittable by any type of bike. Starting off as a motorway with two doubles, then sutting down into a big, sweeping S-Berm, through a few switchbacks and rollable drops, into a very steep last bit.
The bottom section is more 'flat out' with a few small drops and jumps, a big speedy berm, across the fireroad, through a small technical section and out in Baxter's field, to a flat out print with a few jumps to the finish.

The track is among on of the best in Ireland thanks to the baxter family lending the field to CRC, and to give their thanks they are fund raising for a Tandem bike for the local WATCH club which gives visually impaired cyclists a chance to try the sport.
